Some herbal teas have anti-inflammatory or antihistamine-adjacent properties that may ease allergy symptoms modestly. Butterbur extract has the most clinical evidence for reducing hay fever symptoms, though it’s not commonly found in teas. Quercetin, found in green tea and various herbs, may inhibit histamine release — but the dose from tea is low. Nettle leaf has traditional use as a natural antihistamine, with one small study showing benefit. Peppermint contains rosmarinic acid, which has anti-inflammatory effects that may ease congestion. None of these work as reliably as cetirizine or loratadine, but for people who want complementary support alongside antihistamines, or for mild symptoms, anti-inflammatory herbal teas are a reasonable addition to the day.
